Fire Weather Planning Forecast for S MS and SE LA
National Weather Service New Orleans LA
537 AM CDT Tue Sep 15 2026

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure, calmer winds, and higher humidity (Min RH 50-60%)
will dominate the area through Tuesday. A backdoor front will
pass through the area on Wednesday bringing stronger easterly
winds near coastal areas upwards of 15 mph with gusts upwards of
25 mph. Min RH will remain elevated on this day with the highest
chances of rain for the week along and south of I-10/12 (>50%).
However, coastal Mississippi will dry out and be gustier quicker
in the day the the remainder of the forecast area. Behind the
front on Thursday, Min RH values will drop to 30 to 40% north of
I-10, while areas south will be 40 to 60%. Breezy easterly winds
will remain in place on Thursday with gusts predominantly below
25 mph. Winds will gradually calm as high pressure dominates the
area and moisture gradually returns to the area by the weekend.
