At 436 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts over marine areas along a line extending from near Ponchatoula to Laplace. Movement was east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Waterspouts, winds in excess of 40 mph, and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Reserve, Hahnville, Laplace, Ponchatoula, Madisonville, Killona, Norco, Montz, Edgard, Destrehan, Taft, New Sarpy, Garyville, Luling, and W Lk Pontchartrain Buoy. This includes the following Interstates... Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 201 and 218. Interstate 12 between mile markers 48 and 53, and between mile markers 55 and 59. Interstate 55 in Louisiana between mile markers 1 and 25. Interstate 310 near mile marker 6. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Conditions are favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. This type of funnel cloud is harmless, but on rare occasions they can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts over 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is spotted move indoors or to safe harbor and report your sighting to the National Weather Service.
