412 FXUS65 KLKN 291842 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 1142 AM PDT Tue Sep 29 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... * Dry weather conditions throughout central and northern Nevada this week. * Warming temperature trend through the week reaching to a couple of degrees above normal. * Unseasonably warm Friday through the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... (This afternoon through next Tuesday) WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Dry and unseasonably warm weather conditions take hold over Nevada as the low pressure that gave rain pushes east across the four corners, while a high pressure creeps in right behind it and will strengthen across the southwest by mid-week. Temperatures will gradually warm to being several degrees above normal with unseasonably warm temperatures by Friday and over the weekend, reaching close to 15 degrees above normal for this time of year. Winds will be light around 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph each afternoon. By the start of next week, models show slight cooling as a weak upper level trough moves over the western CONUS that will help weaken the high pressure system, however conditions expected to remain dry and still be above normal temperatures. && FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: High confidence for dry weather conditions over the next 7 days. High confidence for warming temperature trend, becoming unseasonably warm over the weekend with above normal temperatures. Low to moderate confidence on cooler temperatures next week from a weak upper level trough. No changes to NBM grids at this time. && .AVIATION... Look for VFR conditions across all terminals over the next 24 hour period. Some breezy winds over KTPH and KELY up to 15-20 kts, gusts 25-30 kts from the north, dissipating to 10-12 kts this evening. Winds at KELY will shift from northerly to southerly overnight staying around 8-10 kts. Light winds across all other terminals. && .FIRE WEATHER... No elevated fire risk across all zones at this time. Breezy northerly winds across the central zones up to 15-20 mph, gusts 25-30 mph which will dissipate this evening. Warming temperature trends throughout the week with temperatures reaching to several degrees above normal with Friday and the weekend seeing unseasonably warmer temperatures reaching around 15 degrees above normal.
