(Tonight through Saturday) WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: An upper-level area of low pressure will move southward along the coast of the Pacific Northwest tonight. This cyclone aloft will reach the coast of Northern California Monday. As a result, the local pressure gradient will tighten over Central Nevada. A Wind Advisory is in effect for Central Nevada from 11 AM PDT Monday morning until 11 PM PDT Monday evening due to south wind gusts near 45 mph. The aforementioned upper-level area of low pressure will turn eastward and make landfall over Central California Tuesday. The aforementioned cyclone aloft will progress northeastward across the Silver State Tuesday night through Wednesday night, before entering Big Sky Country Thursday. Precipitation ahead of the upper-level area of low pressure should begin to overspread Central Nevada late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Periods of precipitation are likely throughout Northern and Central Nevada Tuesday through Wednesday night. Snow levels will start at around 7,000 feet Tuesday morning, before dropping to about 6,000 feet Tuesday night. Accumulating snow is anticipated on passes and summits along Highway 50 Tuesday through Wednesday night. Snow amounts will be as high as two to four inches on Austin Summit. Closer to the valley floor, rain amounts will be generally more than one quarter of an inch. Here are probabilities of rain amounts of 0.30 inches or more for locations in Northern and Central Nevada Tuesday through Wednesday night: Austin - 80% Spring Creek - 75% Battle Mountain - 75% Carlin - 75% Wells - 75% Elko - 70% Winnemucca - 70% Tonopah - 70% Jackpot - 70% Ely - 55% A trough of low pressure will dive southeastward through the Pacific Northwest Thursday night. This trough of low pressure may clip Northeastern Nevada Friday afternoon and Friday evening. A ridge of high pressure will build northward across the Silver State Saturday. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: High forecast confidence regarding strong, gusty south winds in Central Nevada Monday afternoon and Monday evening.
