OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
300 AM CDT Wed Jul 22 2026

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

Gusty north winds early this morning will remain through much of
the predawn hours before steadily subsiding after sunrise. High
pressure around 30.1 inches will build into the northern
Mississippi River Valley from the Great Plain today. The high will
cross southern Lake Michigan Thursday morning, progressing into
the northeastern United States Thursday night into Friday.
Progression of the high will result in a south to southwest wind
shift across the waters.

29.5 inch low pressure will move quickly from the Canadian Great
Plains toward Quebec Friday through Saturday, maintaining south to
southwest winds over Lake Michigan. The low will attempt to pull
a cold front into the western Great Lakes by Sunday, with the
boundary slowly advancing south across the waters through Monday.
The approaching/passing front will result in returning
thunderstorm chances Saturday night through Monday, in addition to
a northerly wind shift by Monday afternoon.
