685 FZUS63 KMKX 121248 GLFLM OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI 748 AM CDT Sat Sep 12 2026 FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan. Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will occasionally be encountered. .SYNOPSIS... Southerly winds will continue to increase this morning as a cold front approaches the region, with winds shifting to westerly as the cold front moves across the lake this afternoon. Expecting wind gusts to remain primarily in the 25 to 30 knot range over the open waters, though a few gusts approaching gale force may occur in far northern portions of the lake. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible ahead of the approaching cold front. High pressure around 30.2 inches will build in from the northern Great Plains Sunday night into Monday. Expect decreasing winds Saturday night through Sunday, and winds gradually shifting to the southeast and increasing Sunday night into Monday. Winds will increase and veer south-southwest Monday night into Tuesday as low pressure around 29.4 inches develops over Manitoba. Gales appear likely during this time frame. Periods of showers and thunderstorms will accompany the developing low from as early as Monday evening into Tuesday. Winds will trend northerly and weaken behind a cold front Tuesday night into Wednesday.
