OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
302 AM CDT Tue Sep 8 2026

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

High pressure around 30.2 inches will remain over the lower Great
Lakes today. Meanwhile, low pressure around 29.6 inches over the
northern High Plains will lift northward through the Canadian
Prairies. This will allow for gradually increasing southerly
winds today through tonight, especially over the north half of
the lake.

As low pressure enters Hudson Bay late tonight, winds shift
southwesterly, then westerly on Wednesday as a cold front pushes
southeastward through the lake. Winds become northwesterly behind
the front, gradually weakening through Thursday and Thursday
night. Winds shift to southerly again and increase into Friday, as
low pressure develops in the northern Plains.
