OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
301 AM CST Mon Nov 2 2026

FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan.

Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which
is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the
average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will
occasionally be encountered.

.SYNOPSIS...

High pressure around 30.5 inches will linger over the Mid-Atlantic
States through dawn this morning before slowly shifting further
eastward into the Atlantic Ocean. Light south to southeasterly winds
continue early this morning, increasing later this morning as low
pressure around 29.4 inches lifts northeast across the Plains and
into MN. Winds will continue to increase across Lake Michigan ahead
of the incoming low pressure with gusts approaching or exceeding
gale force over the central third of the lake for a few hours
Tuesday afternoon. Given the brevity, trends, and uncertainty with
this southerly gale setup, will continue to monitor for if headlines
will be necessary later forecasts. Rain will accompany this low
pressure system tonight through midweek, with a few thunderstorms
possibly mixing in at times.

Then the low pressure is expected to meander near the Upper
Peninsula of MI and Lake Superior for midweek, leading to continued
gustier south winds across Lake Michigan. The low pressure will then
slowly exit eastward for the second half of the week, allowing winds
to veer west and eventually north as high pressure around 30.2
inches builds across Ontario, which should allow winds to gradually
lessen into the weekend.
