.DISCUSSION...
High temperatures in the 20s are expected today amidst mostly
cloudy skies. Winds will generally remain under 10 kts during the
daytime, while mixing heights peak between 1500 and 2500 ft this
afternoon. No precipitation is expected until the late afternoon
and evening, when a band of snow will move into the area from the
northwest. Most of the snow accumulations from this band are
expected to occur south of a Dixon, IL to Rensselaer, IN line,
but a dusting or a light coating of snow could still occur as far
northeast as the Chicago metro.
Bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills are expected over the
weekend with daytime temperatures remaining in the single digits
and teens while wind chills as low as 20 to 30 below zero occur
during the nighttime and morning hours. Another round of accumulating
snowfall is expected on Saturday, mainly in areas south of I-80. A
trend towards milder and less snowy conditions is then expected next
week.
