Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
314 PM PDT Fri Oct 2 2026

...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS WITH HIGH RISK FOR
PLUME DOMINATED FIRES AND HEAT ILLNESS THROUGH MUCH OF NEXT WEEK...

.DISCUSSION...
Extremely hot conditions have begun today and will persist through much of
next week. High temperatures of 95 to 107 degrees, and mixing heights
10,000-14,000 feet, will be common over much of the area, including the
coasts. While winds will generally be light, areas of northeast to southeast
winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts 20 to 30 mph will form each night and
morning over the typical favored areas, especially Saturday into Monday
across LA/Ventura counties. Minimum humidities between 10 and 20 percent
will be common away from the immediate coast. Due to the lighter winds, Red Flag
Warnings are unlikely, but there is a history of large fires with similar
heat and deeper mixing heights. As such, there is a high risk for
plume-dominated and fast moving fires. Widespread Heat Advisories and
Warnings are in effect through next week, with a high risk for heat-related
illness. There is also a 5-10% chance of a thunderstorm over the interior
mountains early next week, along with minor to moderate coastal flooding
concerns Tuesday through Friday.
