Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
239 PM PDT Thu Aug 28 2025

...LOW RISK FOR SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH DRY LIGHTNING
THROUGH FRIDAY OVER LOS ANGELES COUNTY...

...WARMING AND DRYING TREND DEVELOPING OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND WITH
INCREASING MIXING HEIGHTS...

...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE ACROSS
THE INTERIOR PORTIONS OF THE AREA EARLY NEXT WEEK...

.DISCUSSION...
The remnants of Tropical Storm Juliette will move the region through
today and into Friday, scraping the region to the south and east.
Cooler conditions with a low chance of light showers and/or isolated
thunderstorms are possible through Friday. There is a very low chance
(less than 5 percent) of dry thunderstorms if thunderstorms develop
today. Any fire starts that could develop today will make initial
attack difficult due to erratic and gusty winds. Dry lightning risks
will lower tonight but the remote chance (less than 5 percent) for brief
heavy downpours will increase. Low chances of showers and thunderstorms
will linger into Friday, across eastern Los Angeles County.

Temperatures will warm Friday through Tuesday as high pressure aloft
reestablishes and builds back into the Four Corners Region. Highs
in lower 90s to near 105 will be common inland by Sunday or Monday with
mixing heights up to 15,000 feet potentially over the weekend. There is
an elevated risk for plume dominated fires. Humidities between 10 and
20 percent will be common over the warmest valleys and mountains.
Onshore winds will also be increasing over the interior.
