910 FNUS56 KLOX 142144 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 244 PM PDT Sun Sep 14 2025 ...INCREASED RISK OF PLUME DOMINATED FIRE BEHAVIOR DUE TO SIGNIFICANT WARMUP TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY... ...SMALL THREAT OF DRY THUNDERSTORMS AS EARLY AS TUESDAY AFTERNOON/NIGHT, WITH INCREASING CHANCES OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AT TIMES WEDNESDAY INTO FRIDAY (AD POSSIBLY INTO NEXT WEEKEND) WITH LOCALLY STRONG WINDS, FREQUENT LIGHTNING, AND BRIEF HEAVY RAIN/FLOODING POSSIBLE AT TIMES... .DISCUSSION... Temperatures will continue to increase gradually across the interior today through Monday. Southwest to northwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 25 to 35 mph will continue through Monday over interior areas. Hotter conditions are expected Tuesday through Thursday, with high temperatures potentially reaching 100 degrees in the hottest valleys and mountains. There is still a range of outcomes in terms of how hot it will get, but there is high confidence in an enhanced risk of plume dominated fire behavior, especially Tuesday and Wednesday. Winds look weaker than usual, but light offshore flow is likely each morning. An upper level low pressure system developing off coast will likely bring periods of subtropical moisture into the region this week. Subtropical moisture will likely stream into the area starting as early as Tuesday afternoon/night when there is a 5 to 15 percent chance of dry thunderstorms. The chances of showers and thunderstorms at times will increase Wednesday into Friday, and possibly persist into next weekend. The main thunderstorm threats will be strong/erratic winds, frequent and possibly dry lightning, and brief heavy rain inducing flooding. While isolated dry lightning strikes may occur as early as Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night, the greatest threat for direr thunderstorms and associated fire starts will be Wednesday into early Thursday (especially San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties) when there will be increased mid level moisture and more favorable upper level dynamics. With the potential for strong/erratic outflow winds, fire starts will have the potential for rapid fire spread. No significant risks of Santa Ana winds for at least the next 7 days.
