Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California
National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA
257 PM PDT Mon Jul 14 2025

...WIDESPREAD ELEVATED TO LOCALLY BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ACROSS THE INTERIOR VALLEYS, MOUNTAINS, AND DESERTS THROUGH TUESDAY
DUE TO GUSTY ONSHORE WINDS, VERY WARM TEMPERATURES, AND LOW HUMIDITIES...

...SMALL RISK OF MONSOONAL THUNDERSTORMS THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY
ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND ANTELOPE VALLEY...

.DISCUSSION...
An upper level high pressure system over the region will continue
to bring very warm and dry conditions to far interior areas today.
The interior valleys, lower mountains, and deserts are seeing
high temperatures between 95 and 106 degrees today, with 5 to 7
degrees of cooling likely by Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile,
minimum humidity values will likely range between 10 and 20 percent in
these areas through Tuesday. The hottest and driest conditions will
likely be in the Antelope Valley during this period. Strengthening
onshore flow has maintained marine layer low clouds across
coastal and coastal valley areas, with a marine layer depth around
2000 feet. Little change to this marine layer pattern is expected
tonight, then slight deepening is expected Tuesday night. This will
maintain benign weather conditions for coastal and coastal valley locations.

Gusty and widespread onshore winds are expected today through
Tuesday, with sustained winds of 15 to 30 mph and gusts of 30 to 45 mph
common across the interior valleys, mountains, and deserts. The strongest
winds each day will mostly be focused during the afternoon and evening
hours, strongest across the Antelope Valley and adjacent foothills
extending through the Highway 14 corridor and I-5 corridor, as well as
the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo County. The combination of
strong onshore winds, very warm temperatures, and low humidities
will bring widespread elevated to locally brief critical fire weather
conditions across the interior valleys, mountains, and deserts today through
Tuesday, with the highest probability of brief critical fire weather conditions
in the Antelope Valley. As a result, there will be an increased risk of large
grass fires with rapid fire spread through Tuesday. There is also a 10-15 percent
chance of monsoonal showers and thunderstorms over the mountains and deserts
Thursday through Sunday.
