...Discussion from Monterey...

The marine layer will be around 2000ft today and gradually compress
to about 1000-1200ft over the next day or so. This means cooler
weather continues through Thursday, with a slight warming trend
occuring into the weekend. Those within the marine layer`s
influence have minimal fire weather concerns, while those above deal
with poor daytime humidity retention followed by poor to fair
overnight recoveries. Winds remain onshore through the forecast
period with diurnally breezy winds expected across mountain
gaps/passes, ridgetops, and within valleys.

Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified.
Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds.

...Discussion from Los Angeles/Oxnard...

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS SOME INTERIOR VALLEYS,
MOUNTAINS, AND DESERTS TODAY...

...SMALL THUNDERSTORM RISK THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY, FOCUSED OVER
THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS AND ANTELOPE VALLEY...

Elevated fire weather (breezy winds and low humidity) conditions
will continue across some interior valleys, mountains, and deserts
through this evening. There is an increased risk of large grass
fires with rapid fire spread, especially for the Antelope Valley and
Highway 14 Corridor.

A deep marine layer through at least Thursday will maintain below
normal risk for large fire for coasts, coastal valleys, extending
into some interior valleys (mainly San Luis Obispo County). The
marine layer will likely shrink especially north of Point Conception
through the weekend, leading to warming and drying trends focused
across interior valleys of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara
Counties.

There is a 5-15 percent chance of monsoonal showers and
thunderstorms during the afternoons and evenings Thursday through
Sunday, focused over the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley.
New fire starts from dry lighting strikes and damaging outflow winds
are possible with any monsoon thunderstorms.

There is a 20 percent chance that the monsoon disrupts the marine
layer, especially for LA County, leading to the significant warming
trends near the coast.
