...Discussion from Monterey...

High pressure over the Desert Southwest will continue to nose into
the region through Monday. This will maintain warm to hot
temperatures away from the immediate coast. General wind flow will
remain onshore, from the ocean to the land. Moisture working its way
around the high pressure will continue to bring an outside chance of
high based thunderstorms. Probabilities are very low. By midweek,
an area of low pressure moving into the Pacific Northwest will help
to the push the high pressure out of the region. This will cause
more robust onshore flow. During this time expect more breezy
condition through gaps in terrain, such as the Petaluma Gap,
Altamont Pass, and the Salinas Valley. Onshore conditions will help
to keep humidities higher.

Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified.
Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds.

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS INTERIOR TODAY DUE TO HOT,
DRY, AND LOCALLY BREEZY CONDITIONS...

...LONG DURATION HEAT AND MODERATELY DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH
THURSDAY...

...SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TODAY AND TONIGHT...

Subtropical moisture is moving over the area this afternoon,
bringing a slight chance of thunderstorms tonight into Sunday, with
the best chances over higher elevations of the Eastern San Gabriels
along with the Ventura and Santa Barbara County Mountains. The
thunderstorm risk will initially develop across the four- county
area this afternoon, then migrate northward to areas near/north of
Point Conception this evening and overnight. Lingering moisture
will bring a very low chance of convection to the area on Monday,
with chances under 15 percent.

The lowest levels of the atmosphere remain fairly dry, even as
moisture moves over the area aloft, so any thunderstorms that form
will likely have limited rainfall. This results in a low but
present risk of dry lightning along with gusty downdraft winds. As
moisture increases later today there will also be a chance of
brief, heavy downpours, especially in the mountains.

A large ridge of high pressure over the region will persist into
this coming week, creating continued heat over the interior
mountains, the Antelope Valley, and also some of the interior
valleys. High temperatures between 96 and 107 will be common from
the warmest coastal valleys to the interior areas. Breezy winds
from typical diurnal directions will form each day, including gusty
onshore/southwest winds through the interior passes and canyons of
L.A. County into the desert. Sundowner and I-5 Corridor winds will
likely begin Monday afternoon/evening and increase each day through
next week, with gusts reaching 40 mph by Thursday.
