...EXTREME HEAT WARNING THROUGH 8 PM PDT THURSDAY...

...MODERATE RISK OF THUNDERSTORMS WITH LIGHTNING AND SUDDEN STRONG WIND SHIFTS...

.DISCUSSION...
The forecast remains on track for significant warming peaking
Wednesday and Thursday, and tropical moisture bringing risks of
thunderstorms peaking today. With high temperatures likely into the
90s through Thursday, and elevated moisture, the risk for heat
illness is high especially for crews doing strenuous work for
prolonged periods. The moisture will also bring a moderate risk for
thunderstorms anywhere in and around the burn area. If a
thunderstorm does form, associated impacts includes dangerous
lightning, brief downburst wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph from random
directions, and brief heavy downpours with rain rates of 0.25 to
0.50 inches per hour. While there are risks of any of those impacts
occurring, there is also a chance that none occur over the burn
area. The thunderstorm threat will decrease after today. General
winds will be typical through Wednesday, but a strong onshore wind
push on Thursday will likely bring afternoon southerly wind gusts of
25 to 35 mph and possibly stronger. There is a Fire Weather Watch
for areas to the northwest of the fire, but there are no plans for
any Red Flag Warnings for the Summit Fire at this point.
