            Hurricane Genevieve produced a southerly
            swell that impacted Southern California from
            Tuesday, July 28 through Sunday, August 2nd.
            Additionally, high tides over 6 feet
            occurred each evening through late Friday
            night. The combination of large tides and
            Genevieves southerly swell contributed to
            significant coastal erosion along the Malibu
            Coast in Los Angeles County.


            Per Los Angeles County Department of Beaches
            and Harbors, Westward Beach Road, which
            provides vehicle access to Point Dume Beach,
            is closed until further notice due to severe
            erosion caused by recent high tides and surf.
            There is currently no estimated reopening
            date...The bluff edge is unstable, with
            erosion creating drop-offs of up to 8 feet in
            some locations. Entering closed areas could
            result in serious injuryIn addition,
            Restrooms 1, 2, and 3 remain closed after
            erosion damaged the water line and water
            meter serving the facilities. Temporary
            chemical toilets and hand-washing stations
            are available nearby. According to a Los
            Angeles County Lifeguard at Zuma Beach, the
            closures went into effect sometime late
            Friday (July 31) or early Saturday (August
            1). High tide peaked at 6.15 feet around 11
            pm PDT at the Santa Monica tide gauge. Time
            of closure is approximate.
