Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Marquette MI
1000 AM EST Thu Jan 8 2026

For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior.

Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.SYNOPSIS...

A 29.6 inch low moves from Manitoba to northern Ontario today while
a 29.4 inch low lifts into the Upper Mississippi River Valley. This
low will move through northern Lake Michigan tonight while the low
to the north reaches James Bay. Both press into Quebec Friday as
30.1 inch ridging builds over the Upper Midwest. Friday night
through Saturday, two lows (one coming from Manitoba and another
from the Lower Mississippi Valley) will merge, resulting in a low of
at least 29.8 inches near southern Ontario. This low will lift into
Quebec near 29.6 inches Sunday afternoon as a 30.6 inch high spreads
across the Central Plains. The high extends a 30.1 inch ridge over
the lake Sunday night ahead of a 29.8 inch trough transiting the
lake Monday.
