542 FZUS63 KMQT 081500 GLFLS Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior National Weather Service Marquette MI 1000 AM EST Thu Jan 8 2026 For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior. Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum. .SYNOPSIS... A 29.6 inch low moves from Manitoba to northern Ontario today while a 29.4 inch low lifts into the Upper Mississippi River Valley. This low will move through northern Lake Michigan tonight while the low to the north reaches James Bay. Both press into Quebec Friday as 30.1 inch ridging builds over the Upper Midwest. Friday night through Saturday, two lows (one coming from Manitoba and another from the Lower Mississippi Valley) will merge, resulting in a low of at least 29.8 inches near southern Ontario. This low will lift into Quebec near 29.6 inches Sunday afternoon as a 30.6 inch high spreads across the Central Plains. The high extends a 30.1 inch ridge over the lake Sunday night ahead of a 29.8 inch trough transiting the lake Monday.
