Open Lake Forecast for Lake Superior
National Weather Service Marquette MI
401 AM EDT Sun May 3 2026

For waters beyond 5 nautical miles of shore on Lake Superior.

Waves are the significant wave height - the average of the
highest 1/3 of the wave spectrum. Occasional wave height is the
average of the highest 1/10 of the wave spectrum.

.SYNOPSIS...

A 29.6 inch trough moves over Lake Superior this morning as a low
over central Minnesota lifts into northern Ontario. A deepening 29.3
inch low digs over the Canadian Prairies tonight and then deepens to
29.0 inches over northern Ontario on Monday; bringing 29.2 inch
troughing over northern Lake Superior Monday morning. The low lifts
into James Bay by Monday evening as 30.1 inch ridging builds just to
the east of the Canadian Rockies. As the high pressure ridging
shifts to the Canadian Prairies Tuesday and Wednesday, the now 29.2
inch low continues lifting into far northern Quebec. We can thus
expect ridging to slowly build back over Lake Superior to around
29.9 to 30.0 inches by the middle of next week as the ridging
spreads into the rest of the central CONUS. The ridging over Lake
Superior does look to weaken to around 29.8 to 29.9 inches by
Thursday night and Friday as the Upper Great Lakes become sandwiched
between a low just off of the New England coast and troughing on the
lee of the Rockies.
