Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL
National Weather Service Saint Louis MO
510 AM CST Wed Nov 12 2025

In the wake of a glancing shot from a cold front in the Great
Lakes, sustained winds will gradually increase across northeast
Missouri and west-central/south-central Illinois through the
morning into the afternoon. At the same time, this area will see
deeper mixing thanks to the cooler post-frontal air aloft and
strong diurnal warming today. The deeper mixing will also promote
drier air (RH values as low as 25-30%) and gusty winds at the
surface, the combination of which supports an elevated fire
danger in this area late this morning through the afternoon.
Areas further south will not have sufficient wind speeds to pose
an elevated fire danger. Otherwise, mixing heights will rise
beyond 1700ft by the 10am-noon timeframe areawide, with those
near the elevated fire danger achieveing this closer to the early
end. Mixing heights in excess of 2500ft, approaching 4000ft in
spots, will lead to efficient spoke dispersion. Those further
from the stronger transport winds, particularly in the Ozarks,
may see worse ventilation rates despite sufficiently deep mixing.

Minimum RH values recover through the rest of the week into the
40s to 50s along with gradual warming areawide. Winds also
slacken a bit, keeping ventilation rates poor, until Saturday
when a more pronounced southwest wind will take hold. A cold
front passes through Saturday night into Sunday, laregly dry, and
may introduce some drier RH values depending on how cool the air
is Sunday.
