Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern/Central MO and Southwest IL

A stationary front near the Missouri/Arkansas border will slowly
lift northward into southern Missouri today. This boundary will
be the focus for showers and thunderstorms this morning through
this afternoon. Widespread soaking rain is expected to fall in
near and south of Rolla through Festus, MO and Chester, IL.
Average rainfall amounts of around 1" can be expected by late
this afternoon with locally higher amounts in and around
thunderstorms. Overcast skies and rainfall will suppress mixing
heights to 1200 feet or less this afternoon.

The front will continue to lift northward late tonight into
Friday with an additional round of widespread rainfall.
Conditions become less favorable for thunderstorms in the second
round, likely mitigating the highly variable precipitation
amounts that are common in convective environments. Nonetheless,
soaking rain continues through early Saturday morning before the
system exits to the east. Mixing height improve slightly over the
Ozarks into southeast Missouri, where height climb between
2000-2300 feet. Otherwise, expect similar heights as Friday
(~1,000 feet) outside of the Ozarks. Temperatures cool back to
around seasonal norms Saturday (50s) as rain comes to an end. The
environment becomes stable with low inversion heights, along with
mixing heights below 3000 feet.
