539 FXUS64 KLUB 071105 AFDLUB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lubbock TX 605 AM CDT Sun Jun 7 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 603 AM CDT Sun Jun 7 2026 - Showers and thunderstorms through the early morning hours. - Generally hot and dry through the end of the week. && .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Monday) Issued at 1049 PM CDT Sat Jun 6 2026 Showers and thunderstorms will continue tracking across portions of the area for the next few hours, with brief strong winds possible. Skies will gradually clear thereafter through the overnight with morning lows falling into the upper 50s to mid 60s. An upper ridge will begin building on Sunday leading to warming temperatures into the mid 90s. The HRRR continues to indicated developing convection over the southern South Plains by late afternoon. However, the atmosphere will be capped due to the aforementioned ridge and upper flow will be very weak. Thus PoPs have been capped at 20%. The upper ridge continues to build into Monday with increased upper heights bringing even warmer temperatures near triple-digits. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through next Saturday) Issued at 1049 PM CDT Sat Jun 6 2026 A broad upper trough will move into the Intermountain West on Tuesday. The ridge still has the majority of the influence through the day with hot and dry conditions persisting, however if the base of the trough tracks far enough south, it may bring enough forcing to bring some brief showers and thunderstorms over the far southern Panhandle and northern South Plains. In any case, severe weather remains unlikely. The trough will become more shallow is it tracks over the Great Plains and flow over our area will become very zonal through Friday. A few embedded shortwaves may lead to additional thunderstorm development during the afternoon/evening, however chances remain quite low overall. More potent shortwaves look to move through Friday and Saturday potentially leading to a more active pattern over that time frame. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 603 AM CDT Sun Jun 7 2026 Patchy fog is currently impacting KCDS. It is expected to clear in the next hour. Once the fog clears, VFR conditions will prevail at all three TAF sites. Early this afternoon, winds will shift to the southwest and ramp up. By the evening and overnight hours, winds will shift to the south, but remain breezy. && .LUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... None. && $$ SHORT TERM...19 LONG TERM....19 AVIATION...10
