794 FXUS64 KLUB 182309 AFDLUB Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lubbock TX 609 PM CDT Tue Aug 18 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 609 PM CDT Tue Aug 18 2026 - Hot temperatures will continue, with highs exceeding 105 degrees off the Caprock over the next several days. - Low storm chances return each evening Wednesday through Friday. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday) Issued at 1255 PM CDT Tue Aug 18 2026 Hot and slightly breezy conditions will continue the rest of today. The upper high will remain over the Four Corners with upper flow staying out of the north. The Heat Advisory will remain in effect through 8 PM this evening as many mesonets across the Rolling Plains are already near advisory level. An upper shortwave trough will move across the Rockies into the Central Plains late this evening through the early morning hours and will push a cold front southward, but it will unfortunately not make it into the FA. Instead, we will see thicknesses increase by nearly 2 DM by Wednesday afternoon and increase highs by a couple degrees over today and will likely result in another Heat Advisory being issued for the Rolling Plains. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday night through next Monday) Issued at 1255 PM CDT Tue Aug 18 2026 More dryness and heat is in store through mid next week. The upper high will remain over the Four Corners through late week before slowly pushing southeastward. While monsoonal activity continues over the Desert Southwest, convection will stay mostly out of the FA given weak steering flow. A few isolated diurnal storms will be possible mainly across the Texas Panhandle as a weakness rotates around the upper high, but chances of any of these storms moving into the FA are low. The upper high will move over the FA by mid to late weekend and will further increase temperatures with highs reaching 100 or higher area wide by Sunday. Some relief may come mid to late next week as the upper high shifts to our southwest and places the FA under northwesterly upper flow. && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 609 PM CDT Tue Aug 18 2026 VFR is expected to continue through the TAF period. && .LUB WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
