.KEY MESSAGES...
Updated at 1202 AM CDT Sat Aug 22 2026

 - Hot temperatures will not let up through next week.

 - Isolated thunderstorms possible Saturday afternoon and evening
   area wide.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Sunday)
Issued at 1040 PM CDT Fri Aug 21 2026

A strong upper ridge will continue to persist across the area. Mild
overnight lows in the 70s remain expected. Subtle height rises will
allow for temperatures to increase even further Saturday and the
Heat Advisory has been expected to include Lubbock. A weak shortwave
will move over the area by evening. Best chances look to be
generally east of I-27 where greatest forcing will occur, however a
stray storm could occur anywhere. Again, brief locally strong gusts
and downpours would be the main concern. These should taper off by
late-evening with another quiet and mild evening thereafter.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through next Friday)
Issued at 1040 PM CDT Fri Aug 21 2026

The aforementioned upper ridge will essentially stall in place for
the next several days and very little change to the forecast is
expected. Heat Advisory conditions look to continue the weekend
along and east of I-27 and well into next week for areas off the
Caprock. Storm chances should remain minimal, but may return by
mid-to-late next week.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1202 AM CDT Sat Aug 22 2026

Thunderstorms have cleared all TAF sites early this morning with
surface winds quickly turning back around to the south and
becoming light. Winds will continue to swing to the southwest
later this morning. Additional isolated thunderstorms will be
possible this afternoon into the early evening. However, coverage
is expected to be very low again so no mention was made in the TAF
at the moment.
