- Low (10-30%) shower and thunderstorm chances this afternoon and
  evening in southeast New Mexico. Otherwise, dry conditions
  prevail through the period for most locations.

- Above normal temperatures expected through the period, with
  triple digit highs forecast for many locations most days.
  Persistent heat will present an increasing risk of heat-related
  illnesses.

The upper-level ridge has shifted westward towards the Four Corners
region. Though west Texas and southeast New Mexico will continue to
see above normal temperatures, highs do tick down a couple of
degrees through the Short Term. For today, the hottest temperatures
will be located in the Pecos River Valley (mainly Eddy County, where
a Heat Advisory remains in effect through the afternoon for highs
around 105 degrees) and along the Rio Grande. Elsewhere, highs in
the upper 90s to just over 100 degrees will be commonplace, with
slightly cooler temperatures in the mountains. Lows bottom out in
the low-to-mid 70s for most tonight. Isolated to widely scattered
showers and thunderstorms are still expected for portions of
southeast New Mexico later this afternoon and evening, with one or
two storms also possible (10-15% chance) in the Presidio Valley.
Similar to yesterday, a couple of storms may be capable of producing
strong winds. Saturday features our coolest temperatures of the
forecast, with most locations topping out in the upper 90s and only
the typical warm spots hitting 100 degrees. Overnight lows Saturday
are similar to, albeit a degree or two cooler than, lows tonight.
However, temperatures start to trend up again going into the Long
Term period.

The forecast hasn`t really changed since last forecast package.
Upper-level ridging is expected to strengthen aloft, yielding
widespread triple digit temperatures each afternoon. As per usual,
the hottest locations are anticipated to be in the river Valleys
where highs near 105 degrees can be seen along the Pecos River and
up to 110 degrees in low-lying spots of the Big Bend. Temperatures
fluctuate a degree or two each day depending on where the ridge axis
shifts. Additional Heat Advisories will likely be warranted next
week as many spots are expected to meet criteria. Rain chances
remain minimal and most stay dry throughout the extended.

VFR conditions prevail. Winds remain southeasterly to southerly.
Later this afternoon and overnight, some light gusts (mainly in the
18-25 kt range) develop at all terminals. Isolated to scattered
showers and storms develop this afternoon and evening in southeast
New Mexico. Most activity currently looks to remain north of HOB and
CNM, so confidence was too low to include a PROB30 for -TSRA in
either TAF at this time.
