- After a slightly cooler weekend, temperatures next week will
  climb into the triple digits most locations each afternoon next
  week. Heat Advisories are likely, as the effects of heat are
  cumulative, and present an increasing risk of heat-related
  illnesses.

- Rain chances will be slim to none.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Sunday afternoon)

WV imagery this morning shows the upper ridge centered over New
Mexico, and extending southeast through the Louisiana coast.  As a
result, warm weather continues.  Yesterday, due to the proximity of
the ridge, the heat was concentrated on Southeast New Mexico.

Today, however, the ridge develops NNE, to the New Mexico/Colorado
border.  This displacement may be just enough to keep highs most
locations in the double digits, but just barely.  Although highs
will average 5 F above climatology, this looks to be the coolest day
this forecast.

Likewise, tonight, overnight minimums will be nearly 5 F above
normal, courtesy of a 30 kt LLJ and a fetch of high clouds to retard
radiational cooling.  Even so, tonight looks to be the coolest night
this forecast.  Unfortunately, unseasonably warm lows will persist
through the extended, offering little respite from the heat.

Sunday, the ridge develops a little farther south, and increasing
thicknesses will add a couple of degrees to today`s highs.  Some of
the CAMs suggest isolated afternoon convection will be possible
Davis Mountains/Marfa Plateau, and this may be the only chance of
precipitation this forecast.

(Sunday night through Friday)

Not much to expound upon in the extended, which looks warm and dry,
as the upper ridge doesn`t move much.  Widespread triple digits are
expected each afternoon, with lows remaining unseasonably warm each
night due to the LLJ.  Tuesday now looks to be the warmest day this
forecast, with high plateauing a good 8-10 F above normal.  However,
the rest of the days in the extended don`t look more than a degree
or two cooler, if that.  Heat Advisories creep back into the picture
as soon as Monday, and continue all week.  Rain chances are
nowhere to be found, and typical for late July.
