Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
250 PM CDT Sat Sep 12 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Low fire weather conditions persist through the next several days.
Although minRH values fall below critical thresholds over SE NM
this afternoon, light winds mitigate fire weather concerns. Through
next week, minRHs generally stay above 15%, with good to excellent
overnight recovery and relatively light winds, despite ERCs in the
50th-74th percentile and continued above normal highs. Fire starts
from lightning and strong, erratic winds in isolated daytime storms
are possible, but overall risk of ignition and fire spread will
remain low. Temperatures gradually cool through next week while rain
chances gradually increase across the western half of the area.
