Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
154 AM CDT Tue Aug 18 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Light 20-ft southerly winds and good overnight recovery limit
fire weather conditions despite very warm daytime temperatures
near or above the triple digits, fuel ERCs in the 50th to 74th
percentile and rising, not widespread wetting rains expected, and
min RH below critical 15% for parts of Southeast New Mexico and
western higher terrain of West Texas through the end of the week.
Isolated showers/storms over drier fuels may pose risk of fire
starts from lightning and strong, erratic winds.
