...MEDFORD OREGON WEATHER REVIEW: May 2024...

The month of May started out cool and wet. A strong front brought
significant rain to the area between May 3rd and 4th, with over
one inch of rain. Towards the end of the first week, the pattern
transitioned from cool and wet to warm and dry as an upper level
ridge began to set up over the area. This upper ridge resulted in
above normal temperatures with highs greater than 80 degrees from
May 9th until the 16th with a high of 90 degrees on the 11th.

There was a cooldown as an upper trough began to settle in over
the area on the 17th and this upper trough remained a fixture
through the 26th. A few dry cold fronts moved into the area which
also helped to keep high temperatures near or slightly below
normal.

Weak ridging followed the rest of the month, leading to warmer
afternoon temperatures and milder overnight lows. It`s also worth
noting that no precipitation fell in Medford, Oregon after May 6th.

The average temperature for the month was 61 degrees, which is
0.06 degrees above normal. The average maximum temperature was
75.9 degrees, which is 2 degrees above normal. The average
minimum temperature was 46 degrees, which is -0.9 degrees below
normal. The highest temperature for the month was 90 degrees
which occurred on the 11th. The lowest temperature for the month
was 33 degrees which occurred on the 1st.

There were 21 clear days, 8 partly cloudy days, and 1 cloudy
day.

Total precipitation for the month was 1.14 inches which is -0.20
inches below normal. Total precipitation for the water year
(beginning October 1st) is 16.14 inches which is 0.56 below
normal. Calendar year precipitation is 10.99 inches which is 1.65
inches above normal.

The average wind speed for the month was 4.9 mph. The fastest
recorded two-minute wind speed was 25 mph from the southwest
which occurred on the 6th. The peak wind was 33 mph from the
southwest which occurred on the 6th.

The highest pressure for the month was 30.36 inches on the 29th.
The lowest pressure for the month was 29.52 inches on the 4th.
