...MEDFORD OREGON WEATHER REVIEW: September 2026...

September saw an early cool and wet spell from the 1st to the 7th
which brought 6 straight days of rain to start the month. This
wasn`t just local either. Most of the area had wetting rainfall
during the period, including the East Side and in northern
California, which brought much lower fire weather concerns than
would be expected in a typical September. Even some snow fell (2.2
inches) up at Crater Lake National Park on the 4th. It did warm
up briefly from the 9th-11th, but another cool shot moved in from
the 12th-17th, which featured thunderstorms on both the 16th and
17th. The airport measured a thunderstorm wind gust to 43 mph on
the 16th. Another brief warm up occurred from the 18th-21st with
near to slightly below normal temperatures to end the month.

The average temperature for the month was 63.9 degrees, which is
3.8 degrees below normal. The average maximum temperature was 79.2
degrees, which is 5.1 degrees below normal. The average minimum
temperature was 48.6 degrees, which is 2.6 degrees below normal.
The highest temperature for the month was 96 degrees which
occurred on the 9th. The lowest temperature for the month was 42
degrees which occurred on the 14th and 29th.

There were 23 clear days, 5 partly cloudy days, and 2 cloudy days.

Total precipitation for the month was 1.31 inches which is 0.83
inches above normal. Total precipitation for the water year
(beginning October 1st) is 14.94 inches which is 3.49 inches below
normal. Calendar year precipitation is 8.04 inches which is 3.03
inches below normal.

Total snowfall for the month was 0.0 inches which is normal.
Total snowfall for the season (beginning July 1st) is 0.0 inches
which is also normal.

The average wind speed for the month was 3.7 mph. The fastest
recorded two-minute wind speed was 35 mph from the south which
occurred on the 16th. The peak wind was 43 mph from the south
which also occurred on the 16th.

The highest pressure for the month was 30.21 inches on the 18th.
The lowest pressure for the month was 29.77 inches on the 24th.

A record daily maximum rainfall of 0.80 inches was set on the 2nd
which broke the old record of 0.23 inches set in 1997.

A record lowest maximum temperature of 60 degrees was tied on the
2nd and was previously set in 1912.

This was the 26th coolest September on record (out of 116 years)
and it was also the 18th wettest.
