Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Eastern North Carolina
National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC
354 AM EDT Sun Aug 16 2026

.DISCUSSION...
Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms forecast
this afternoon along any river/sound/sea breezes as they interact
with a northward moving frontal boundary. This afternoon activity
will bring a low end threat for frequent lightning, gusty and
erratic wind gusts, and flash flooding. Greatest risk north
Highway 70 associated with a northward moving warm front. While
precip chances lower tonight, they return once again on Monday
afternoon and evening with the approach of a cold front.

Above average temps continue into the end of the week. Light
northeast to east winds veer to a S`rly direction by Sun evening
behind the aformentioned northward moving warm front. As a result
not expecting any significant fire weather concerns over the next
few days under light winds and ample moisture across ENC.
