...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT SOUTHEASTERN HYDE AND SOUTH
CENTRAL DARE COUNTIES THROUGH 515 PM EDT...
At 446 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms capable of producing a waterspout over Portsmouth
Village, or 13 miles northeast of Cedar Island. These storms were
nearly stationary.
HAZARD...Waterspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally
hazardous waters. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs
and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include...
Frisco, Portsmouth Village, Ocracoke Light House, Hatteras Ferry
Terminal, Ocracoke Ferry Terminal, and Ocracoke Lighthouse.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
