Fire Weather Planning Forecast for East Central Florida
National Weather Service Melbourne FL
300 PM EDT Sun May 31 2026
.DISCUSSION...
Low pressure will push east off the Georgia/South Carolina coast
Monday which will produce an increase in westerly surface and
transport winds across east central Florida. Breezy conditions are
forecast Monday with west winds 15-20 mph and gusts up to 25 mph.
This will produce Very Good to Excellent dispersion values. The
offshore flow decreases Tuesday as a weak frontal boundary sags
towards the area which will allow the east coast sea breeze a better
chance to form along the coast but its progress inland will be
limited. Minimum RH values will remain well above critical
thresholds as a moist air mass remains in place across the Florida
peninsula.
The moist air mass coupled with a sea breeze collision in the
afternoon hours will lead to moderate to high rain and storm chances
across east central Florida. Higher rain chances are forecast
Tuesday along with potential for strong to marginally severe storms.
Frequent lightning strikes, wind gusts up to 60 mph, and minor,
localized flooding will all be possible with the strongest storms
that develop. Activity will push offshore into the late evening and
overnight hours.
Fog potential...Widespread fog is not forecast. Localized visibility
reductions due to smoke from new or existing fires will be possible
even if fog is not forecast.
