.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1229 AM CDT Sat Aug 30 2025

The soggy weekend will continue today with storms already
developing along the coast. A rather broad upper trough will
persist over the eastern US through the weekend slowly pushing a
surface cold front through the area. Several shortwave troughs are
expected to progress through the northwesterly flow leading to
several rounds of thunderstorms along the slowly sagging surface
boundary. PWATS will be hanging around 2 inches throughout the
period giving plenty of moisture available for widespread storms.
Expect numerous to widespread thunderstorms mainly along the
coast today with slightly lower coverage on Sunday as the boundary
slowly slips south. With slow storm motions and PWATS above 2
inches, localized heavy rainfall will be possible across the poor
drainage areas along the immediate coastline. By the middle of
next week, drier air should be able to finally push south enough
to dry things out temporarily. Unfortunately the front will likely
not get too far offshore leading to rain chances still lingering
around the coastal areas.

The one good thing with the active pattern is a continued period
of cooler temperatures with mostly highs in the 80s through most
of the week. The increased moisture will certainly keep things a
little muggier than the past week but for early September
standards we will certainly take highs in the 80s and lows in the
mid to upper 60s. Once the drier air moves in midweek, we will
likely see those low temperatures drop back off into the low to
mid 60s. BB/8

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 614 PM CDT Fri Aug 29 2025

A first round of rain moves off, leaving general VFR conditions
with some local low to mid MVFR conditions over the forecast area
at 23z. CIGs are expected to drop to general low/mid MVFR levels
overnight due to overrunning of a stalled surface boundary near
the northern Gulf coast. Another passing upper system will bring
another round of rain and thunderstorms to the forecast area late
Saturday morning into the afternoon. Local drops in conditions to
IFR levels are possible at time. North to northeasterly winds of 5
to 10 knots are expected through the forecast.
