...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA...
.DISCUSSION...
Well-above normal temperatures are expected again this afternoon
with highs in the 60s. Even warmer temperatures are possible
across southwest Minnesota, where southwest winds along the
Buffalo Ridge could result in enhanced mixing this afternoon &
temperatures in the low 70s. If this deeper mixing occurs, then
drier air will also mix down to the surface & potentially drop RH
values below 30% this afternoon. Winds will be strongest to the
west of the ridge where gusts of 20 to 25 mph are likely, while
weaker winds in the teens to near 20 mph are more likely east of
the ridge. Thus a few hours of elevated fire weather conditions
are possible from mid to late afternoon if we do end up seeing
temperatures reach the 70s across portions of southwest Minnesota.
