Public Information Statement

...AWIPS UPDATE JUNE 16 TO 18 AT NWS CHANHASSEN...

The National Weather Service Twin Cities in Chanhassen MN will be
conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather
Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) system from June 16 at 7AM
through approximately June 18 at 4PM. The NWS uses the AWIPS
computer system to display and integrate weather and water
information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather
and water warnings, to the public.

During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted
by our service back-up offices in Duluth MN, Boulder CO, and La
Crosse WI to minimize any potential interruption to services. No
impacts to our core services of forecast products and weather
watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period.
The KMPX radar will remain operational and products will continue to
be distributed as normal. The NWS Chanhassen office will remain open
and staffed at all hours throughout this update period to help
support our backup offices, answer public and partner phone calls,
and additional functions that can be completed without AWIPS.

However, limited impacts will occur to the following services:

NOAA Weather Radio will be down throughout the upgrade. The affected
sites are listed at weather.gov/mpx/nwr. Partial County Alerts
(PCA) for Hennepin County may be impacted. Local graphical
forecasts such as the graphical hazardous weather outlook (GHWO)
will not be updated.

During periods of planned or unplanned outages, it is important to
have multiple ways to receive warning information. These alternative
sources include: local television/radio, weather apps on your mobile
device, such as the FEMA or Red Cross App, and at the NWS website at
weather.gov/mpx.

Any questions can be sent to our office at nws.twincities@noaa.gov
