.DISCUSSION...
Clouds build in from west to east today as a Clipper low approaches
the area, eventually skirting by the north shore of Lake Superior
tonight. As this occurs, expect the winds to slowly build in from
the south with time, eventually gusting up to 20 to 25 mph by the
early evening hours. Thinking rainfall will start this afternoon
from west to east across the area, particularly by the mid to late
afternoon hours as some dry air in the lower levels will probably
need to be overcome. That being said, thinking minRHs will behave
and stay above 30% today, and for maxRHs tonight to support a full
RH recovery across the entire UP. Currently, it looks like around a
quarter inch or so of rainfall is expected this afternoon to Sunday
morning, with the highest rain totals expected in the higher terrain
of Marquette County as well as Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
(see the latest Area Discussion for percent chances for the area).
Expect gusty winds behind the Clipper on Sunday, with northwest
winds of 30 to potentially even 40 mph possible along the Keweenaw
and southeastern Lake Superior shoreline; gusts up to 30 mph will be
possible further inland, but expect wind speeds to decrease the
closer one is to Wisconsin.
