.DISCUSSION...

Idaho (Zones 102 and 103): A ridge of high pressure will maintain hot
and dry conditions through mid-week. The primary concerns will be poor
overnight RH recoveries in the thermal belts and persistent
northeasterly winds. While the atmosphere is unstable, the threat for
thunderstorms remains very low today. Smoke from regional fires will
continue to cause hazy conditions.

Northwest MT (Zones 104 and 105): Isolated to scattered thunderstorms
are expected to develop this afternoon and evening, especially along the
Divide. These storms will be "hybrid" in nature, capable of producing
brief heavy rainfall under the core, but also gusty, erratic outflow
winds and lightning. The storm threat will end this evening. A hot and
dry pattern will then take hold through mid-week, with strengthening
thermal belts. Easterly winds will persist, with the strongest winds
expected tonight and again on Wednesday. Smoke will remain an issue.

West Central MT (Zones 106, 107 and 108): A slight chance for an
isolated thunderstorm exists this afternoon, mainly over the higher
terrain. The primary forecast concerns, however, remain the hot and dry
conditions expected through mid-week, along with strengthening thermal
belts. Easterly winds will persist over the region, with the strongest
winds occurring tonight and then again on Wednesday. Smoke will be an
issue from regional fires for the next couple of days.

Southwest MT (Zones 109, 110 and 111): The threat for thunderstorms
today is minimal as the activity is expected to remain well to the
north. Hot and dry conditions are expected through mid-week, along with
strengthening thermal belts and persistent northeasterly winds. Smoke
will be an issue from regional fires. A pattern shift is anticipated to
bring a better chance for storms to the region by the latter part of the
week.
