Increasing clouds and southerly winds on Tuesday ahead of the incoming weather system. A few rain showers possible on Tuesday across the far North Bay near the Mendocino county line but the rest of the Bay Area and Central Coast will remain dry on Tuesday. Southerly winds will begin to increase late Tuesday afternoon and evening with gusts to 45 mph, strongest along the coast and in the hills. The main cold front moves through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with heavy rain and possible thunderstorms for the North Bay. The front will rapidly shift southward during the day on Wednesday and weaken south of San Francisco. Rain totals of 1 to 2 inches for the North Bay with up to 1.50 inches for the Santa Cruz mountains and Santa Lucia range with lesser amounts for the interior valleys and little or no rain south of Pinnacles. Dry weather will last through much of the morning across the area today as a low pressure offshore tracks northeast toward Oregon. Southerly winds will be favored for the higher ridges and areas near the coast. Rain will probably begin by late afternoon after about 1 or 2 PM for mostly coastal portions of Del Norte and Humboldt. By 5 and 6 PM heavier rain will spread across the North Coast and sag southward overnight. Rain increases overnight with highest amounts over the coastal ranges.
