...UPDATES TO NWS BAY AREA FROST AND FREEZE PROGRAM...

...Change #1 Frost/Freeze Now Seasonal...

The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area has used the
Freeze Watch, Frost Advisory, and Freeze Warning to cover both
human and agriculture impacts on a year round basis. These
products will now only cover agriculture threat and span the main
summer growing season, April 1 through November 15.

The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area is adopting
the Cold Weather Advisory and Extreme Cold Watch and Warning,
beginning now, to address cold impacts to humans. These products
will be issued as needed throughout the year.

...Change #2 Frost/Freeze Program Has Ended for 2025...

The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area will not
issue any Frost Advisories or Freeze Watches and Warnings the
remainder of this cold season. The next time these products may be
issued is April 1, 2026.

Given changes to the cold weather hazards, National Weather
Service San Francisco Bay Area will opt to address cold weather
impacts to agriculture with the Cold Weather Advisory and Extreme
Cold Watches and Warnings; however, frost may not be denoted in
the forecast.

...Change #3 Introduction of Cold Weather Advisory and Extreme
Cold Watch and Warning...

The National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area has added
Cold Weather Advisories, Extreme Cold Watches and Warnings. This
is a 1 to 1 exchange when it comes to Frost Advisories and Freeze
Watches and Warnings this cold season.

*Cold Weather Advisory: Temperatures between 33 and 36 degrees.

*Extreme Cold Watch: Temperatures may fall to or below 32
 degrees.

*Extreme Cold Warning: Temperatures at or below 32 degrees.

Mountain zones will only have these products issued when the
adjacent valley zones have either a Cold Weather Advisory or
Extreme Cold Watch or Warning.

National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area will be
coordinating and reviewing criteria with key stakeholders this
winter to determine changes next years cold weather season.
