Atlantic high pressure will build westward along about 23N Thu, as Hurricane Erin moves northward of Bermuda. .TODAY...NE to E winds less than 5 kt, shifting to W to NW in the afternoon. Within 200 nm east of the coast of Florida .SYNOPSIS...Major Hurricane Erin is near 22.8N 70.2W at 5 AM EDT, and is moving northwest at 11 kt. Maximum sustained winds are 115 kt with gusts to 140 kt, and the minimum central pressure is 945 mb. Erin will move to 23.6N 71.2W this afternoon, 25.0N 72.2W Tue morning, 26.6N 72.9W Tue afternoon, 28.6N 73.4W Wed morning, 30.7N 73.4W Wed afternoon, and 32.9N 72.2W Thu morning. Erin will change little in intensity as it moves near 37.2N 66.1W early Fri. Swells generated by Erin will affect the Bahamas, Bermuda, the east coast of the United States, and Atlantic Canada during the next several days. These rough ocean conditions will likely cause life- threatening surf and rip currents. The pressure gradient between a ridge over the eastern U.S. and Erin will promote moderate to fresh N to NE winds offshore northern Florida to near 76W from early Tue through Wed.
