.Southeast into the Tennessee Valley...

Flash and urban flooding is possible through today in Central Alabama,
North Georgia, Southeast Tennessee, and far Western Carolinas as persistent
convection pushes east across the region, as reflected in the Limited
impacts area on the FHO. Current soil moisture is relatively low to normal
(1545% RSM, NASA SPoRT), which would typically mitigate immediate runoff.
However, two geographical factors in this region will counteract the drier
soils. The first is the terrain and geology the steep slopes of the
southern Appalachians and shallow depth to bedrock will promote rapid
runoff efficiency. The second is the seasonal vegetation due to the late
fall season, vegetation coverage is low, increasing potential for rapid and
excessive runoff. Consequently, while widespread river or small stream
flooding is unlikely due to the soil capacity, heavy pockets of
precipitation could still generate rapid runoff, resulting in localized
flash and urban flooding.
