058 FXUS63 KOAX 012334 AFDOAX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Omaha/Valley NE 634 PM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Lingering rain showers continue across southeastern Nebraska and western Iowa this afternoon, tapering off from northwest to southeast. - Patchy fog will be possible overnight into Tuesday morning. - Unseasonably cool weather will continue through the end of the work week, with a few chances for showers/storms. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 334 PM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025 An area of low pressure currently sits over southeastern Nebraska, with continued shower activity across primarily southeastern Nebraska, although a few light returns are being picked up on radar across western Iowa. Moderate rainfall may be possible at times, causing some reductions to visibility. Shower activity will end northwest to southeast late this afternoon/early evening as the low slides southeast into northern Missouri. Light and variable winds are expected tonight into Tuesday morning. This, combined with cool temperatures and recent moisture will pose a concern for some fog development across the region, but particularly for low-lying areas. Tuesday, will be fairly quiet with dry conditions expected as we come under northwest flow, with a broad upper trough to the east. Temperatures for this time of the year range from the low to mid-80s for highs and the mid-50s to low 60s for lows. Tuesday`s expected highs will range from the mid-70s across western Iowa and areas along and south of the Hwy 92 corridor to the low 80s along the NE/SD state line. A cold front slips south into the region on Wednesday, bringing another shot of cooler air. Expected highs will range from the mid- 60s in the north, to the mid-70s along and south of I-80. Low temperatures Wednesday night/Thursday morning will fall into the low to mid-40s. Shower and thunderstorm chances (20-50%) will return to the forecast for the daytime hours, tapering off from north to south in the evening. Thursday brings a brief warm up and dry conditions before another cold front arrives on Friday. The cool down back into the 60s will be short-lived. Expect a gradual warming trend heading into the weekend, with highs in the 60s and 70s and lows in the 40s and 50s. && .AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 634 PM CDT Mon Sep 1 2025 MVFR ceilings should continue to exit early in the period with clearing skies giving way to fog development overnight, especially north of Interstate 80. The big question will be how far south fog extends and exact timing of development and dissipation. For now, included restrictions at OFK (2SM, TEMPO 1/2SM) and OMA (3SM) with a 6SM mention at LNK where clouds may linger a little longer overnight. Would expect some locations to see 1/4SM or less, but confidence in that happening at TAF sites is low right now. Fog should start to dissipate toward 15Z with FEW to SCT clouds 2000-3000 ft lingering through the remainder of the TAF period. Winds should generally remain 5 kts or less and somewhat variable overnight, but will become southwesterly Tuesday. && .OAX WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... NE...None.
