.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1228 PM CDT Fri Oct 2 2026

Blue skies and a visible sun are a welcomed change. The upper
pattern flow shows trofing over the Big Bend Country of west
Texas and weak ridging over the Rockies as revealed by WV
imagery. At the sfc, high pressure has settled into the Upper
Midwest and has spilled into Nebraska and Kansas. Wind speeds
are generally out of the northeast at about 5-10 knots.

Temperatures this afternoon have outpaced the forecast diurnal
trend, so afternoon max temps have been pushed up by two
degrees. It matters to few beyond the weather weenies. It`s a
beautiful day either way.

Skies remain clear tonight and through the weekend with little
to no impactful weather forecast. With the wet soil and sfc high
in the area, entertained the thought of fog development
overnight, but the considerably drier air in place means dewpoint
depressions should remain above zero. Fog will also be battling
the wind speeds beginning to creep up after midnight,
especially north.

.SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...

Have bumped up expectations for Saturday a bit as well,
considering today`s obs. Highs will fall just short of early
october norms, peaking within a degree on either side of 70F.

Sunday`s temps will fall just shy of those from the day prior,
but will still be lovely. Sunshine remains. A weak cold front
is responsible for the backslide. Winds will remain a reasonable
5-15 mph, but sweep out of the north. Accompanying showers
should remain north of Nebraska and Iowa.

.THE REST OF THE FORECAST...

Monday will start off cool again, with temps in the mid- to
upper-40s (like this morning) with a sfc high in place. Ridging
out west, however, indicates heat will build in the Front Range.
Our temperatures will increase by Tuesday, pushing into the 70s
and looking to remain there through the remainder of the week.
Wednesday may bring a glancing blow of a dry cold front, but no
impacts to temps are anticipated.

Longer range forecasts (CPC) suggest an overall drier and
warmer pattern for mid-October. Farmers hoping to get some
harvesting done should be on board.

.AVIATION /00Z TAFS THROUGH 00Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 638 PM CDT Fri Oct 2 2026

VFR conditions expected through the period with mostly clear
skies. Some patchy fog may develop in river valleys and low
lying areas overnight, but chances of impacts at TAF sites is
below 10%. Otherwise, expect southerly to southeasterly winds,
with gusts of 20-25 kts at LNK and OFK during the day Saturday.
