421 FXUS64 KOUN 031100 AFDOUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Norman OK 500 AM CST Tue Nov 3 2026 ...New AVIATION... .KEY MESSAGES... Updated at 457 AM CST Tue Nov 3 2026 - Breezy northwest winds and cooler temperatures today. - The next chance for rain returns Thursday morning. - A warming trend is expected this weekend into next week. && .NEAR TERM... (Through Tuesday) Issued at 1220 AM CST Tue Nov 3 2026 Water vapor imagery shows the mid-level low skirting the northwest OK/KS state line with the dryslot pushing into central Oklahoma. This system will pivot northeastward today and the trailing cold front will continue to move across the area. As this occurs, gusty NNW winds (gusts of 35 to 45mph) will continue to surge into northwest, west-central and into north-central Oklahoma this morning. Gusts across western north Texas and central Oklahoma rise to 25 to 35 mph, with lesser speeds over southeastern Oklahoma. With the flow wrapping around the cyclone to our north, expect a southern push of clouds, light rain chances this morning, and CAA to yield cooler temperatures into the afternoon. High temperatures are forecast to range from the upper 50`s to near 70 degrees (far southern Oklahoma and western north Texas). Thompson && .SHORT TERM... (Tuesday night through Thursday night) Issued at 1220 AM CST Tue Nov 3 2026 Mostly clear skies, light northwest winds, and colder conditions are expected tonight as temperatures fall into the 40`s from north to south after sunset. Tomorrow, temperatures will rebound some under sunny skies and winds returning to the south as a shortwave ridge passes overhead. Low temperatures on Wednesday night will be in the low 50`s. Another shortwave exits the south-central Rockies by Thursday morning and rain chances increase over north-central Oklahoma, and on the north side of a developing/weak surface cyclone. Instability will be low (up to 400 J/kg) but not zero, and so, there is a slight chance of a few thunderstorms with this activity. With the progressive nature of the shortwave, rain chances shift eastward pretty quickly and exit our CWA by late afternoon on Thursday. Clouds and low-level CAA will provide slightly cooler conditions north of I-40, with slightly warmer temperatures southward. Low temperatures on Thursday night drop into the 40`s. Thompson && .LONG TERM... (Friday through Monday) Issued at 1220 AM CST Tue Nov 3 2026 Another shortwave ridge traverses the plains on Friday, with partly cloudy skies, light north winds and temperatures mainly in the 60`s. Then, a warming trend is anticipated into at least Monday, with above-average temperatures predicted for next week. Thompson && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 457 AM CST Tue Nov 3 2026 A large low cloud deck will continue to develop across the area this morning creating MVFR ceilings at all sites except SPS/DUA. LAW should rise to VFR by mid/late morning. Gusty west to northest winds will overspread the area this morning as well behind a cold front. These winds will diminish late this afternoon and become light after dark. Skies will also clear around this time. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
