.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 210 AM MDT Sat May 30 2026

Low pressure system will move northward through Wyoming today.
We should see rainfall on the back side of the low with
appreciable rainfall amounts east of a line from Challis to Arco
to Pocatello and Malad. Models continue to show a sharp drop
off in rainfall amounts along and west of this line. Although
light rain will be possible through Monday over parts of the
area, the more impressive amounts will fall today. 0.50 to 1.00
inches of rain is likely across the eastern highlands and the
upper Snake Plain. On the western edge of the moisture, models
are showing the potential for isolated thunderstorms this
afternoon. Gusty winds are likely today across south Idaho,
likely resulting in a lake wind advisory for the American Falls
Reservoir today. Much cooler air will pour into the region today
with highs in the 50s across the eastern highlands and upper
Snake Plain with 60s elsewhere. Temps will return to closer to
normal on Sunday with highs in the 50s for the eastern
highlands, 60s for the mountains and upper Snake River Plain,
and lower 70s for the lower Snake River Plain and eastern Magic
Valley. OVernight lows going into Monday morning will flirt with
frost criteria, but will probably stay just warm enough. Expect
upper 30s for lows across the Snake River Plain with a few
colder pockets possible. Temps return to the 80s by Tuesday.
Models still show a weak trough passing through Wednesday or
Thursday which could produce some light rain for us. But there
is some uncertainty in how deep that trough is. If the trough is
shallower, the better rain amounts will stay north into
Montana.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SUNDAY/...
Issued at 210 AM MDT Sat May 30 2026

Rain moving into eastern Idaho will most certainly produce MVFR
conditions at IDA and DIJ today and possibly IFR conditions.
Questionable if the lower ceilings make it into PIH or not. SUN
is sitting right on the edge of the rain shield and models show
storms developing around SUN this afternoon and then moving
southeast towards PIH in the early evening.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 210 AM MDT Sat May 30 2026

Wetting rains are likely across much of East Idaho today. Parts
of the Central Idaho Dispatch could see wetting rains as well.
South Idaho Dispatch will most likely stay mostly dry with gusts
to 30 mph likely across much of the Magic Valley today. Drier
air will work into the region on Sunday with gusts to 25 mph
will likely across much of South Idaho.
