832 FXUS65 KPIH 081742 AFDPIH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 1142 AM MDT Mon Jun 8 2026 .KEY MESSAGES... - Much cooler temperatures through Wednesday - Good chance for widespread showers and storms Tuesday into Wednesday morning - Drying and warming trends along with breezy conditions later in the week through the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 222 AM MDT Mon Jun 8 2026 Satellite imagery shows weak high pressure over the area with zonal flow aloft approaching from the west ahead of a Pacific trough located currently off the Washington and Oregon coasts. Expect warmer temperatures today, slightly above normal with overall light winds early before becoming breezy, especially for our western areas. The next Pacific shortwave pushes inland on Tuesday. Showers could arrive as early as Monday night, but much of the region should see at least some precipitation Tuesday along with a few thunderstorms. Wetting rains of at least 0.10" are expected for most higher elevation regions. Precipitation continues mainly across the north and northeast into early Wednesday. NBM chances of a two-day total of 0.25" exceed 50 percent for the Sawtooths, Frank Church, and most of the eastern highlands north of Soda Springs to the Divide, though most of that total should fall on Tuesday. Temperatures are expected to cool slightly under the influence of the cloud cover and precipitation, and breezy to windy conditions are expected both Tuesday and Wednesday. Gusts will be around 35 to 50 mph on Tuesday and around 25 to 40 mph on Wednesday. Overall dry westerly flow is expected Thursday and Friday and continue into the weekend, with a warming trend along with continued breezy conditions. && .AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z TUESDAY/... Issued at 1142 AM MDT Mon Jun 8 2026 The main concern during this forecast period is the frontal passage and the potential for strong to severe wind accompanying overnight convection as it shifts eastward. Have included TEMPOs for thunderstorm activity and stronger wind gusts during this timeframe, although some high resolution models feature stronger wind gusts along portions of the boundary, closer to 50-55 kts. Precipitation chances will increase along and behind the front with periods of moderate to heavy rain expected to briefly limit visibility. CIGs will also trend MVFR heading into the overnight and early morning hours Tuesday. Winds will begin to increase ahead of the front this afternoon and evening, with gusts to around 25 kts. && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1142 AM MDT Mon Jun 8 2026 Min RHs remain low today (below 15% for Fire Weather zones 425 and 427) with overall lighter gusts early today ahead of a system approaching that will come through tomorrow. Expect gusts of near 25 to 30 mph especially for western and northern ridge tops by late afternoon/early evening. On Tuesday expect strong winds gusts (35 to 50 mph) with increased RHs (min RHs of 25 to 60S%) with scattered showers and isolated to scattered thunderstorms Tuesday with wetting rains likely for higher elevations. Precipitation chances continue into Wednesday morning mainly for Fire Weather zone 411. Temperatures remain below normal through Wednesday with drying and warming trends along with breezy conditions later in the week through the weekend. && .PIH WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
