.DISCUSSION...
The latest satellite imageries show a large air mass with open
cell cumuli clouds associated with a high pressure system to the
south, move across the islands, and hold a trough line to the
north of Swains Island. This high pressure will dominate weather
features throughout the week. The open cell cumuli clouds together
with moderate to fresh easterlies will continue to move across the
territory for tonight through at least Tuesday night. The
potential for showers remains at isolated to scattered (10 to 50
percent) for this time frame. Upper air data (RAOB) from this
afternoon (25/00Z) shows moderate to fresh easterlies together
with moisture concentrated at the surface to about 800 mb. Above
this layer to mid-level is a dry profile of the atmosphere with
a light to gentle breeze.

Long term model solutions show the aforementioned high pressure
system exiting the region by midweek. The high pressure exiting
will briefly have easterlies decrease to around moderate breeze,
before increasing again to fresh breeze for the rest of the
forecast period. Embedded showers will continue throughout the
week as easterlies also remain.

Therefore, expect periods of isolated to scattered showers with
moderate to fresh easterlies for this forecast period.

.Marine...
Rough seas remains across the American Samoa coastal waters. Data
from the PacIOOS buoy near Aunu`u show wave heights around 10 to
13 feet with peak periods around 12 to 14 seconds long. These
values translates to higher surfs reaching the advisory levels.
Moderate to fresh easterlies with higher gusts, at times, have
also been persistent throughout the day and the last couple of
days. These two features have been contributing to the rough
conditions and strong currents. Nevertheless, the latest FNMOC
model run show seas subsiding to around 6 to 8 feet by midweek
through at least Thursday night. By late Thursday into the
weekend, winds will pick up again and seas will also build to
advisory levels again. Therefore, advisories for high surfs and
small crafts will remain in effect throughout the week.
