.DISCUSSION...
Mostly sunny skies with light winds have been observed throughout
the day. These conditions are expected to remain for the rest of
the week. Upper air observations (RAOB) from this aftenoon (03/00Z)
show improving conditions with a dry atmosphere and light and
variable winds at the surface. Two main drivers are a high
pressure system to the south, holding the trough to the north and
east, and another high pressure system following behind. These
features will move and change weather patters on a day to day
basis. Thus, expect isolated to scattered showers with light winds
for tonight through at least the weekend.

By the new week, model data shows a possible low pressure system
developing over the Fiji Islands as it migrates south. Also by
this time frame, winds will slowly turn northeast on Saturday
through at least Monday then east at the end of the period.
Expect scattered to numerous showers embedded within the wind
flow. Gentle to moderate breeze will remain for Saturday through
the rest of the period.

Observations of ocean conditions remains calm and glassy. These
conditions are also reflected on the observations from the PacIOOS
buoys near Aunu`u and Poloa. Seas of 4 to 6 feet is gradually
building to 5 to 7 feet throughout the day. With the long period
north-northwest swell currently in the area, together with higher
than normal high tides (king tides) expected on Wednesday through
at least Friday, the risk of strong currents and higher surfs
increases. Model data is showing seas remaining below advisory
thresholds for the rest of the forecast period. However, with the
two features expected this week, seas may elevate to hazardous
conditions prompting advisories for high surfs and small crafts.
Will continue to monitor conditions as more data becomes
available.
