.Discussion...
Thunderstorms continue to build in the American Samoa region as
an active trough lingers. This is evident on latest satellite data
showing lightning signals and convection developing over and
across the Islands. Model data holds an unstable and moist
environment through the new week as the trough remains anchored
in the region. A high pressure system to the south will hold the
trough in it`s current position through at least Tuesday.
Additionally, the high will usher trade winds to accompany the
trough. Hence, expect flash flooding conditions and breezy winds,
gusty at times to continue for this timeframe. When the trough
finally exits the region on Tuesday, showers will follow a
diminishing trend. However, breezy winds will linger for most of
the week.

Latest wave heights at the PacIOOS buoys are around 6 to 8 feet
and within small craft advisory thresholds. Although a north swell
is evident, current observations do not reach the high surf
advisory threshold. This means surfs aren`t as hazardous as out in
the open ocean. Expect elevated ocean conditions through the
weekend as seas are higher near thunderstorms. However, as the
trough diminishes Tuesday, trade winds will keep seas in a rough
state for the remainder of the forecast period.
